Know what every batch really costs you

Benchtop tracks your materials, your recipes, and what you make, so you always know your real margin. Your Shopify stock updates itself every time you finish a batch.

Coming soon to the Shopify App Store.

You buy in bulk. You sell one at a time.

Wax arrives in ten pound bags. Jars arrive by the case. Somewhere between the supplier invoice and the shelf, the cost of a single candle quietly disappears.

So most makers price by feel, and find out much later that a bestseller was barely breaking even. Benchtop does the arithmetic you have been meaning to do in a spreadsheet, every time you make something.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs in the background. There is a full step by step setup guide if you want to see exactly what is involved.

1

Add your materials

Wax, wicks, jars, oils, labels. Anything a batch uses up, along with what you actually paid for it.

2

Build a recipe

Tell Benchtop what goes into one unit and how much. It works out your true cost and your margin straight away.

3

Log a batch

Your materials come off the shelf and your Shopify stock goes up, ready to sell. Nothing to re-enter by hand.

Why it is different

Built for makers, not resellers

Your materials are used up when you produce, not when you sell. Most inventory apps have that backwards, which quietly counts your stock twice.

It lives inside Shopify

No separate system to log into and nothing to export. It runs in your admin, next to everything else you already use.

Priced for a small workshop

Free while you are getting started. Twenty dollars a month when you outgrow it, which is a fraction of what the older tools charge.

Questions

Who is this for?

Anyone who makes what they sell. Candles, soap, cosmetics, baked goods, jewelry, ceramics, resin, and plenty of things we have not thought of.

Do I need to understand accounting?

No. You enter what you paid for your materials and what goes into each product. Benchtop does the arithmetic and shows you the number.

What happens when a customer buys something?

Shopify reduces your finished stock exactly as it does now. Benchtop only draws down raw materials when you make a batch, so nothing is counted twice.

What if I already track this in a spreadsheet?

Then you already know the tedious part. Benchtop keeps the same numbers up to date without you remembering to open the sheet.
